It all started with a dare.
The only 1911 at the time I thought anyone should ever own was a Wilson Combat CQB. It was at the time what I thought a custom 1911 was and could be. It was at the range one night when a friend said a true custom was one that is built for you and not one bought off a shelf. It was then towards the end of the night that I knew I had to have one of these “custom” 1911’s and off a friends dare for me to build one began my journey into the custom 1911 world.
Fast forward to present day and my quest for what is a custom 1911 and what makes them so special is still an on going voyage. There is no other platform that allows so many options to be had and the creative design to take place. Every slight change to a bevel or line gives each 1911 its unique style and SOUL.
“It’s about you, your vision, and the end result”
What is custom? Simply put it, it is anything that is not a standard. Change your grips and now you have a custom gun. It is a term that is used loosely in the industry as well as many others like hand crafted or built one at a time. Have you ever really thought about these statements. These are all assembled by hand and well you can only do one at a time.
Functional Art is probably the best term I have ever heard of for describing what is the custom 1911 pistol. With so many options and styles to be had, we are only limited to our imagination.
